Student organization, Great ÀÖ»¢Ö±²¥n Accounting People (GAAP) took a field trip to Anchorage over Spring Break! They spent the week learning about job opportunities, visiting different accounting firms, and even got to mingle with professionals at an ice cream social.

CBSM student and GAAP member, Roxy Lane shares her experience:

"I always enjoy attending GAAP events, they are wonderful opportunities to build my networking skills and make real world connections with possible employers. As I get closer to my graduation date, it is very important to have an understanding of what to expect as I enter the workforce. Going to Anchorage and getting one-on-one time with accounting firms and other employers is an invaluable experience in this industry. I was able to learn about other opportunities in private industry as well as those in government. The IRS was a pleasant highlight, as they are always funny, welcoming, and open to answering questions; even the silly, exciting ones about crime masterminds they have brought down with solid accounting work.

I also enjoyed bonding time with fellow students from UAF as well as those from UAA. We went to dinner at Moose's Tooth and shared stories over so much pizza! It was encouraging to see such a diverse group of people laughing and our hopes for our futures. As an older student returning to college to get another degree, it is encouraging to have unifying moments with potential coworkers. The future for those of us in college now is so bright, it is inspiring to see other students with similar drives and desires to make the most of this time in school."
