Friday Focus: Enhancing the employee experience

I've met dozens of employees over the last 18 months as UAF's first onboarding and engagement manager. I've enjoyed sharing my experience of working at the university for the last 23 years. More than 200 people have participated in the half-day New Employee Welcome (NEW) orientation either in person or the shorter online orientation. Employees have also joined other activities offered for new and existing employees to foster a sense of belonging. Continue reading this week's Friday Focus.

For the past three years, Joey Slowik has focused on preventing slug damage to crops. Along the way, Slowik, an integrated pest management technician with the University of 乐虎直播 Fairbanks Cooperative Extension Service, has uncovered a lot of odd and interesting information about the often-reviled gastropods. Forum brings together Interior farmers, producers and market gardeners

A free two-day event will offer a mix of formal presentations and time for Interior 乐虎直播 farmers and growers to share ideas and knowledge. The inaugural Interior 乐虎直播 Farm Forum will be held from Jan. 31 to Feb. 1, 9 a.m. to 5 p.m., at Pike's Waterfront Lodge in Fairbanks. It is designed to connect local farmers with other farmers and with the resources they need to succeed. It's also an opportunity for people thinking about becoming farmers to learn more. The UAF 乐虎直播 Center for Climate Assessment and Policy and Elizabeth Figus are hosting a dialogue on Feb. 27 from 1-5 p.m. called, 鈥淧racticing partnership: Co-production and boundary spanning in rural 乐虎直播.鈥 This dialogue will bring together graduate students, staff, and faculty to discuss the nuts and bolts of implementing co-production and boundary spanning frameworks in research. Judges needed for virtual competitions Feb. 3-4

Educators Risings is an organization under the Department of Education, K-12 Outreach, at UAF helping middle and high school students in their quest to become teachers. Every February, virtual competitions are held for students across the state, and a few more judges are needed to make this event happen. Learn more during an info session on Jan. 22.
