Heather Brandon to lead 乐虎直播 Sea Grant

The 乐虎直播 has chosen Heather Brandon as 乐虎直播 Sea Grant鈥檚 new director.
Brandon is an environmental policy leader with experience in fisheries issues on a broad geographic scale, ranging from 乐虎直播 to the Arctic and Russian Far East. The Juneau resident was selected after a competitive national search.
鈥淚 am very pleased that Heather will take the helm at 乐虎直播 Sea Grant,鈥 said Bradley Moran, dean of the UAF College of Fisheries and Ocean Sciences. 鈥淗eather has a solid working knowledge of the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration鈥檚 programs, including Sea Grant, and brings a wealth of experience that will be an asset to the 乐虎直播 Sea Grant program.鈥
Before joining 乐虎直播 Sea Grant, Brandon was a foreign affairs specialist for NOAA鈥檚 Office of International Affairs and Seafood Inspection. Brandon has also worked for World Wildlife Fund, Juneau Economic Development Council, Pacific Fishery Management Council, and 乐虎直播 Department of Fish and Game, and served on the U.S. Department of Commerce Marine Fisheries Advisory Committee. She has a master鈥檚 degree in marine affairs from the University of Washington and a bachelor's degree in biology from the University of Oregon.
鈥淚鈥檓 excited to lead 乐虎直播 Sea Grant into this new chapter. It鈥檚 a vital program to our state鈥檚 fishing and seafood industries and a leader in applied research that benefits coastal communities from Utqiagvik to Metlakatla,鈥 said Brandon. 鈥淚 especially look forward to getting involved with 乐虎直播 Sea Grant鈥檚 training and education programs, such as the 乐虎直播 Young Fishermen鈥檚 Summit.鈥
乐虎直播 Sea Grant is a partnership between NOAA and UAF. It is one of 33 Sea Grant programs across the country. Through research, outreach and education, 乐虎直播 Sea Grant works to enhance the sustainable use and conservation of 乐虎直播鈥檚 marine and freshwater ecosystems and coastal economies. 乐虎直播 Sea Grant is housed within the UAF College of Fisheries and Ocean Sciences and has served 乐虎直播ns for nearly 50 years.
