āOld Woman with Berries in Her Lapā by Vivian Faith Prescott
Through a single descendantās voice that speaks to the SĆ”mi diaspora, this collection of poems is a journey through colonialism, transgenerational trauma, and identity. Many have heard of the SĆ”mi reindeer herders brought to ĄÖ»¢Ö±²„ by Sheldon Jackson in the 1800s, but not much is known about the SĆ”mi diaspora experiences in the state and beyond. The poems āOld Woman with Berries in Her Lapā use the North SĆ”mi language as well as graphics and various types of poetry to tell these stories of migration and diaspora.
