Bring your class to the museum!
A field trip to the museum will enrich your lessons, engage student interest, and create lasting memories. Plan a visit for your class and ignite their curiosity.
We have many resources designed to help you prepare for your field trip or to explore science, art, history, culture, and collections from your classroom.

Bring your students to the museum to learn about our state’s history, cultures, science, and art! Focus time in one gallery or plan a rotation schedule to visit them all.
Make reservations throughout the semester and explore at your own pace.
Available: Monday - Friday 9 AM - 5 PM.
Advance reservations required.
Schedule throughout the school year.
Cost: $4 per student
Chaperones required.
Preschool Offerings: With a preschool field trip, teachers receive a backpack of interactive gallery exploration activities designed for ages 3-5.
Optional Preschool Add-On: Reserve the Creativity Lab for your visit, including a hands-on craft and a free-play area. Additional $2 per student. Available select Monday and Friday mornings, on a first-come, first-served basis.

UAMN volunteer docents guide student explorations and activities centered on museum research and collections.
Directed Discoveries are allotted to local schools. See your administrator for details.

Choose a Directed Discovery topic based on grade-specific curriculum.
GRADES K - 1 🕒 1 hr
GRADES 2 - 6 🕒 1.5 hrs
ALASKA NATIVE CULTURES
Discover and explore in the Gallery of ÀÖ»¢Ö±²¥.
K-1 Develop awareness of the cultural diversity of our state through objects and gallery
explorations.
2-3 Explore ÀÖ»¢Ö±²¥ Native cultures, experience fish camp, and learn about cultural traditions
and seasonal activities in ÀÖ»¢Ö±²¥'s Interior.
4-6 Examine cultural connections to regional resources and take part in a trade game to
learn about bartering traditions.
MUSEUM SCIENCE
Discover how museum collections teach us about our world.
K-1 Find animals in the Gallery of ÀÖ»¢Ö±²¥ while practicing observation and comparison.
2-3 Apply skills of sorting and classification and learn why they are important to science.
4-6 Examine and compare skulls to learn about animal characteristics and adaptations.
EXPLORING ART SPECIAL
Discover the Rose Berry ÀÖ»¢Ö±²¥ Art Gallery and the special exhibit. Sketch and create.
K-6 Discover and interpret art in many forms. Tour the Thinking Made Visible special exhibit and the Rose Berry ÀÖ»¢Ö±²¥ Art Gallery. Practice journaling and hands-on
art activities.
WHALE LAB
K-6 Explore whales in a docent-led experience. See bowhead and beluga whale skeletons
and various skulls. Discover cultural connections to whales, explore whale adaptations,
and make your own bowhead skeleton.
Available: Mondays at 10:00 AM (1.5 hours)
Cost: $50 per class + school tour admission ($4 per student)
Maximum: 30 students (15 student minimum)
ADD-ONS Advance reservations required.
GALLERY EXPLORATION Free
Schedule 20-30 extra minutes after your Directed Discovery to lead your students through
another of the museum’s galleries.
SPECIAL EXHIBITS Free
