Friday Focus: New year, new view: Integrating research

Now it is such a full blown addiction that I have created a path for myself that ensures both math and science are a part of my everyday life. Spring 2023 Mental Health First Aid training

Student Health and Counseling is continuing to offer Mental Health First Aid training to the UA community throughout the Spring 2023 semester. Mental Health First Aid is a public education program that teaches participants how to identify, understand and respond to signs of mental health and substance use challenges.

Sign up for Responsible Conduct of Research training now

Responsible Conduct of Research training will be offered Wednesday, Jan. 25, from 2-5 p.m. via Zoom. The training is brought to you by the Office of Research Integrity. This particular workshop fulfills the National Science Foundation and National Institutes of Health requirements for formal RCR instruction. This is the only formal RCR training at UAF this semester.

Spring 2023 tuition waiver reminder

Tuition waivers for employees, faculty, adjuncts, spouses and dependents are due each semester by the fee payment deadline, which is Friday, Jan. 27. Please remember tuition waivers cover tuition only and the student is responsible for paying all other fees by the payment deadline.

Learn to strength train in 2023 with Nanook Recreation

Nanook Recreation offers a variety of strength training group fitness classes that are free with membership. Currently, offerings include intro to strength training a beginner-friendly class that goes over the basics of strength training machines, functional exercises, and free weights.

Save the date: Commencement 2023 is May 6
January 03, 2023
UAF's 101st commencement is scheduled for 1 p.m. on Saturday, May 6, at the Carlson Center. There will be one ceremony this year. Students who are expecting to walk this year, should apply to graduate by Feb. 1, 2023. After that date the fee rises to $80; March 1 is the final deadline.

Friday Focus: Survey says... 'A bright future ahead!'

The Chancellor’s Cabinet consists of 22 directors, which is used as an advisory group on policy, new initiatives, and thorny issues. They are thoughtful and representative of a broad swath of UAF. It is a group with its finger on the pulse of the university. On Monday, the last cabinet meeting before the winter break, we dedicated an hour to a look ahead. All members were given the opportunity to share their, or their unit’s big goals for the next academic year or an introspective look back, things that worked or things that didn’t. It was a very interesting and inspiring 60 minutes. What I heard was an overwhelming sense of hope and optimism.

Solo Exhibit at the ÀÖ»¢Ö±²¥ State Museum

The ÀÖ»¢Ö±²¥ State Museum in Juneau is presenting a solo exhibition of Gail Priday’s paintings through Feb. 4, 2023. Priday, associate director of Summer Sessions and Lifelong Learning and UAF art department alumna, received a 2022 Individual Artist Award from the Rasmuson Foundation. A portion of the award helped cover the cost of shipping 33 paintings from Fairbanks to Juneau.
